Windshield 1984 TA cracked by baseball

Yeah- the neighbors kid---- ouch------- The local shop that will do it could NOT supply me with the rubber seal reveal that surrounds the windsheild. They have other rubber reveals BUT none of them match what is currently on my windshield. I would like a match- GM# 20215817 used 1982- 2002. There has to be replacement windshield reveals. Classic Industries used to stock it as part # G1082- But Now discontinued--- How can that be -this cover 20 years of use on TA's and Firebirds- these reveals that surround the windshield has to be out there -somewhere

Stock type moulding is crap. I worked in a glass shop. Just use a 1/2" universal and it will look/work better than the original.

It looks too wide. It is just easier for the installer as it comes pre-installed on the windshield. Order the molding from Classic and get it looking right.

As a former installer, if a 1/2" is too wide then use a smaller universal. I've put universal moldings on 100s of windows and in the case of older cars it is always a better/cheaper solution.

The molding for a thirdgen never came attached to the window. If it did the window part number would end in a -Y meaning "attachment" and there would be no separate listing for the molding.

Most of the time preformed moldings are hard and rigid and need to be urethaned to the glass before installation.

If you look at most thirdgens you will notice the corners of the window moldings are no longer making contact with the window frame pillars. Why would you want to put that same molding back on?

Because it should not be that wide. There are 2 versions of the original molding available. The later version is a bit wider so that the problem with the corners showing is reduced a bit. That is the one that is sold by Classic. Either way, the wide molding does not belong. If there is a universal molding that is the proper width then that is what should be used if the installer is attempting to put it back the way it was. Most use the molding that is too wide.

Some people just want something that works better. I tried to get the original style but the glass man talked me out of it. Mine is closer to 3/4" wide. When I first looked at it I thought "that is way wider and doesn't look like factory". I don't even notice it now. I have never had anyone say to me your car looks great, but what's the deal with that windshield molding. I'm not trying to show my car so it works for me. The thing is actually much better sealed now and will prevent water getting inside the lip and causing rust issues. Plus, it will cover any paint masking lines on a repaint and you can run a wire around the underside edge to raise the seal when repainting and not have a line from masking.

I had a brand new windshield installed on mine by the body shop and it was only $200 installed. I was like, "can I have 2?" heh, but it looks perfect, not sure what they used, but I am betting it wasn't something "made" for my Camaro.

Yeah, it was $100 for the guy to pull and reset the glass with no guarantee of not breaking it. It was $180 for a new glass and molding pulled and installed. No brainer.

I see your point. My Birds are garage Queens and both appear original so my concern is aesthetics and originality. For a DD, I would want the windshield sealed up with the best available molding.
