Upper hinge bushings replacement

I have a very saggy door and after realizing the bottom bushings were long gone i went to autozone and bought the replacement kit from dorman.
I took the pin out and put in the new one with the new bushings (all this without removing the door) and the situation got way better but then i realized that the upper bushings too are in the same conditions. With the only difference that i can't figure out a way to change them and i also cannot find a kit for the upper ones only, it seems they only sell the bottom kit or both the kits only, not the upper alone.

Who did this already?

Yup. Only seen the combo kit upper and lower sold. You have to grind out the pins on the uppers and replace with a shouldered bolt and bushing.

I was afraid of that. I wonder if GM trusted those bushings so bad to make the pins unremovable...

Well thank you

Actually removing the pins by grinding off the heads is an aftermarket solution to the problem. As time consuming and difficult as it sounds it is easier and less expensive than GM's solution which involves grinding out the spot welds that holds the hinge to the door and replacing it with a new one that gets bolted to a plate you slip into the inside of the door.

The upper hinge kits include a lower pin and bushings because you will destroy the lower pin when you remove it. Actually, destroy is a harsh term, you will break the clip that is designed to keep the lower pin in place after installation, but that is not a biggie. I've supplied upper kits to customers that requested deleting the lower pin. There is not much of a cost savings though.

Another option is, if you are planning to do both doors, order the kit I sell that is for the 4th Gen F-bodies. The kit that is designed to fit one 4th Gen door consists of two sets of what would be our Gen's upper hinge pins and would do two third Gen F-bodies exceopt they are missing the thirdgen lower pins & bushings.
