confused on rear defrost

I can find a handful of threads on rear defrost, but I'm not completely clear on the rear lift supports for the hatch.

My car didn't come with rear defrost, I'm going to add it.
From the best I can tell, the wires hook up to a connector on the rear hatch lift struts, But I can't find anyplace that list the rear defrost option for them. I only see it with the spoiler and wiper motor option.

Is the connector on the strut just a place to clamp the wire onto? Or does it have to do something with the actual electrical circuit making connection?
Another words, is this something I don't need to worry about?

nevermind.
it appears the "tabs" are already there on the shocks.

Re: confused on rear defrost

question is can you fix or replace a rear defrost once some of the wires stop working? My 89 GTA's rear defrost only has like two lines that work. I'd hate to have to replace that huge piece of glass simple because the wires in the rear defrost stopped working.
