Need Help Making a Tough Decision
To make a long story short, I Totaled my 1985 Trans Am, Gave it up to insurance, And bought it back at auction.
I bought the car back for two reasons. First off, besides for the damage from the crash. The car was mint (one owner, deep documentation, the works). The second reason is that I hated the thought of someone besides for me tearing it apart for what was left.
My questions is do you guys think its worth fixing/Do you think its possible?
The damage to the front of the car is not what I am worried about. That is the easy part. What I am worried about is the frame and rear damage. The rear end is pushed over a lot, as you can see in the pictures. So everything under there is probably done(axle is probably fine). The engine starts ,and idles fine, I am not sure about the trans.
The car was my uncle's before it was mine. I have everything on the car, from the window sticker to the Original gatorbacks. That being said i am very attached to the car, but i am realistic and realize that there is a lot of damage.
I am not a body man so I don't know what I am getting myself into if I choose to fix it. I am confident that I can fix the front end but not the rest.
So what should I do? Part her out, or try to save her.
Also a word of advice. 10k mile 22 year old gator-backs, and trees are a bad combo.

"Is it worth fixing?" No
"Do you think its possible?" Anything is possible with enough cubic dollars.
The car would probably be a great doner. Find a non rusted shell and have some fun.
Sorry for your loss. It was beautiful and could be again with a different shell.

But,ALL the parts from the 85 will fit your 86.If you have any storage room,I would strip it to the bone and hold onto or sell the majority of parts, headliner, seats or upholstery, tail lights anything worth saving. These parts are getting really hard to find, and what I've seen of both your cars they were well kept.

Re: Need Help Making a Tough Decision
Thanks for the input. As much as I want to keep the car, I am gonna have to let it go. I plan to swap the black interior out of the car, and put it in my 1986. After that I plan to salvage what is still usable, then scrap the car. The only thing that i can't save would be the hard to remove stuff like the engine, trans and rear end. If i can find the room, i might just put it off to the side, until I have the resources to fix it. But that is very unlikely to happen. I get the car back on monday, and plan to have it stripped within in a day or two. If anyone is interested in the engine, trans and the rear end, let me know, and pm me for more details. I would like to see the car live on in some shape or form, instead of just turing into a cube of metal.
