Are 1987 Camaro and Trans Am rear hatches the same ?

Hello I am wondering if the rear hatch on 3rd. generation (1987) Camaros and Firebirds/Trans Ams are the same. If so what years are the same as 1987. Are the spoiler holes the same ?

Thankyou for any help.
John

The glass is the same but the metal decklid holes will very upon which spoiler was on it. U will most likely have to weld and fill the decklid holes.

They are actually not the same decklid. I replaced my 1987 formula decklid with a camaro one and the gap on the sides between the lid and the rear quarters is larger. The Camaros are slightly thinner in the back end than the TA/firebird. Then of course you have the spoiler hole differences.

Thankyou for the information customblackbird , I guess I will have to stick to a 1987 Firebird/Trans Am. Or whatever a junk yard says will fit.

Well depends how **** you are about gaps, but it's not horrible, prob a 1/4" more or so each side. They physically will bolt up to the back window but will need to fill the spoiler holes and drill new ones. It's easier to find a firebird deck lid with the holes in the right spots, but I put a camaro wing on my firebird so the camaro deck lid was a better choice. Even tho the wings were different and I needed to fill the holes anyway and drill new ones.

I found one (hatch) from a Camaro with no holes... seems to line up okay.
