quick question on 89 trans am fender vents

quick question on 89 trans am fender vents
I did some reading on here and have all my question answered on the 3rd gen trans am vents, except for one.
do the 85-89 trans am fenders with the vents have a "recess" area for the fender vents like the hood vents? or are they just regular firebird venders with a flat cut in them?
