Odd antenna location

My 1983 Camaro antenna is located from the factory on the passenger side rear fender. I haven't seen any like it before... Does anyone know why? I appreciate the answers in advance.

Re: Odd antenna location

That is a weird location. I would think it would get in the way of the spare tire. Or vice-versa.

Re: Odd antenna location

Unless you were the original owner, I'd say that a previous owner prolly moved it back there and filled in the hole up front, that being said I do like that position much better than up front. Antennas up front throw off the body lines of a sports car to much for me.

Re: Odd antenna location

Our family has had it since '83 and that's how it rolled out of Norwood. I didn't see any RPO code for it, and thought it was interesting.

Re: Odd antenna location

I may have gotten an answer... on a few other forums I see guys with radio delete (UL5) cars, that before sale had dealer installed radios with a rear antenna. That could explain it. Now if I can only find the build sheet!

If the dealer installed it, it will not be on the build sheet, but that would explain it. Look under the lid for the locking compartment in the back, that's where the rpo codes should be if it's the original interior. Or sometimes on the bottom of the armrest lid.

1984-1991.5 = console glove box. 1991.5-1992 locking glove box in the trunk.
