Could try plasti-dipping it to see how it looks. IMO, the separation line isn't as pronounced on 3rd gens. I imagine the line would be similar to what a good two tone job would follow.
Granted if you have a t top or vert it would be easier to define that line, but I don't think I would attempt it on a hard top. I'm actually planning on laying some gloss carbon fiber vinyl over the A pillar, so we'll see how it goes. I'll post progress pics once the material comes in.
The reason the 4th gens are like that is because the windshield covers the entire A pillar. There isn't any exterior metal there. If you did this on a third gen you would just have two black sticks coming down from the roof on the outside of the windshield, it would stick out.
Unless it's a t-top car then you could black out the A pillars along with the forward part of the roof ahead of the t-tops to make it blend in. That's my plan anyway.
