Post Pics of your engine bay!!

I am swapping motors in my '86 Z-28. And I was wondering how yall's looked. I am wanting to get rid of all the cluterness. It has a stock LG4 (305 w/4 barrel carb) motor in it right now. I am putting a 350 in it. So I thougt scence I am already changing everything, now would be the time to get rid of whatever I could! I cant stand all that crap. You cant even see the intake on the motor because of all the wires and hoses in the way! And im probubly going to put headers on it, and right now I dont see how I can do that with all that other crap in the way. I know im going to get rid of that EGR crap. But I would like to know what yall did.

Thanks!!!!!

I swamped a GMPP 350 in my origonaly equipted LG4 car. No computer, edelbrock intake, carb, and dress up. Headers, heads, and cams are comming this summer. I'm hoping for 13's this spring after exhaust.

Did taking the comp off mess anything up like the a/c or anything?

Thats what somone told me would happen. Plus seence I have a 700r4 (well I guess anything auto), that it would mess up my converter.

Do you have any of these prob's?

I done away with the heat and A/C in my car and smoothed over the firewall. I also ditched the computer, the only thing you need to make the converter lock up is a vaccum switch, which is pretty easy to fix.

Hey Prime the motor looks sweet but watch out for that breather cause I know someone that had one and their filter started falling apart and the pieces got sucked into the carb. Not saying it will but that it has been known to happen. Looks good tho. Just didn't want it to hurt that nice ride.

Yeah I know a guy who melted half of one of those filters after a few good backfires. Look out!

Remove the AC? Uhhh, I might as well remove the right rear wheel while I’m at it. That way I’d make my car even lighter!

Seriously though, what exactly would you mess up by pulling the computer-controlled stuff out? Keep in mind that they set the smog standards from us poor CA bastards, so it’s not like we have a lot of options…

Had to replace my carb recently, with a smog legal carb ($1.100 new, $350 for remanufactured which I for some reason ended up getting) It would have been pretty sweet to have just pulled any old carb from whatever car I could find at the bone yard, but… well…

My a/c is gone as you can see in the pic. I still have a heater and use it everyday now. I don't have any of that emmisions BS (EGR, Smog, Canister, ect.) Nothing got messed up with the computer gone. I do live in an emmisions controlled area and this year I failed the sniffer becouse of a bad cat. The #'s were very close to passing. This year after exhaust, it will be fine.

If you do away with the ECM, then you will need to wire up an aftermarket TC lockup switch.

Thanks 83firebird yep that the one, and I bought it to be a daily driver, rain whatever. But when it arrived it was way to clean to do so. So now it my toy, only driven on nice days
(sick isnt it) but I see it getting rare to find 3gen that are not trashed.

By the way yours look pretty clean for a 83

All you have to do is reduce the size of the picture, then include it as an attachment directly from your computer.

Here are a couple...

1987 Iroc 5.7L (all stock, aftermarket cruise, 52,000 miles)

1991 Formula 5.7L (pardon the mess, hasn't been detailed since the last work I did on it, and it has the wrong master cylinder, mostly stock 114,000 miles)

1991 RS convertible 5.0L tbi (all stock, 55,000 miles)

1991 Firebird 3.1L (almost entirely stock, 140,000 miles)

Here is mine. I repainted the all of the firewall, except the part about where the heater core tubes are over to behind the dist., and the fenders. I haven't got my new fuel system set up yet, so that is why the lines are on top. I alos am going to try and build a delete pulley this winter so I can stay sane while I can't drive the car! I also am getting an aftermarket overflow tank, which one I have not decided yet. Even though I took off the brake booster, and master cylinder, I still managed to not get paint under the steering column. That is why it looks a little pink. I had to put the remote starter silinoid on the firewall just so something would be over there. It looks lop sided with the drivers side full. I also moved the harness under the booster.

Yeah I 've ran them on various cars for the last 5 years. They do OK if you replace the element every 3 to 6 mo. but one quick backfire and bye bye filter. Thanks for the complement I really appreciate it.

I wish I could get it back just like it was the day I sold it!

A friend of mine talked me out of it. He had it for 4 years sitting in his garage. Only put 2000 miles on it in 4 years. His wife was expecting, so it had to go. He sold it to a guy that was going to give it to his 15 year old son as a first car. It ran 7.20's 1/8 mile. DOT tires, emissions legal. Have not seen or heard of it since.
