Bottom Stripe Removal

Thirdgen...what's up,

Can anyone throw me some tips on how to remove the stripe kit (orange/red&silver stripe) from my T/A? (If it's something feasible for a body work layman... plus the laminate of the stripe decal is starting to peel slightly on two sides anyway [about 1.75 inches]) The body is in great condition, I only worry about maintaining the integrity of the clear-coat. I'm seeking to personalize my car more, and purely black body is super appealing to me, plus the stripe kit is still available to purchase in several color options for any dissatisfaction that might occur (highly doubt). I plan on leaving the grey/silver "Trans Am" Logos and Firebird decal on the hood. I am unfamiliar with body work. I'm trying to do this myself but legitimately. Thanks for any input

These work pretty good.

3M Stripe Off Wheel 07498, 3/8" Mandrel, 4" Diameter x 5/8" Width, Beige (Pack of 1): Power Rotary Tool Accessories: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific 3M Stripe Off Wheel 07498, 3/8" Mandrel, 4" Diameter x 5/8" Width, Beige (Pack of 1): Power Rotary Tool Accessories: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

Should give you an idea of what to look for. Most auto shops that have painting supplies carry these. If there's any residue left I usually use goo-gone to get it off. Just don't let it sit for too long, it'll start oxidizing the paint (or perhaps removes oxidized paint. You'll see pigment on your cleaning cloth).

What he said. Heat gun. Every detail shop and body shop will tell you the same.

Just be careful not to over heat as you will warp the plastics, but striping will start to pull away long before that happens as long as you dont concentrate on one spot for too long. Yep, heat gun, $15 at any walmart or harbor freight or auto parts store

If you use that eraser wheel, do it outside. It will leave a mess in your garage. Also, be prepared to buff out the swirls it'll leave in your paint.
