Removing ground effects

Just wondering if there is a way to permanently remove ground effects from our cars, specifically an 89 Trans Am, without it looking like trash. Would you just have to fill in the screw holes or is there more to it?

Thanks

Re: Removing ground effects

You would also have to replace the front and rear bumpers as you can't remove the ground effects from them.

Wow Ezrider13 most people buy those not throw them away. Hell ive been buying extras. I actually threw away a Formula front and rear bumper I figured no one would want em.

To add, it would probably be cheaper to just sell the 89 TA and buy a Formula unless you have some special attachment to the car.

Re: Removing ground effects

I'm in the process of doing this on my '85 Trans Am.

I picked up an '85-'90 rear bumper, still looking for a matching front. It's funny, most people throw them away when they do a GTA clone and it makes it hard to find good Firebird bumpers.

The most time consuming part will be filling in all the holes in the doors and rockers, but I'm sure you've already discovered that. Also, if you haven't removed your GFX yet, be prepared to find some rust. On thie bright side, you'll be able to repair it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Re: Removing ground effects

The ground effects on the rocker panels mount on a sheet metal flange that is spot riveted to the rocker panel. That will need to come off too.
