YearOne Transmarow built thread
So one year after I bought this thing I figured it was time to change it up. I was able to do one autocross in this car and some serious driving. I put about 5,000 miles on her.
Here are a couple of pictures the way I got it.
And now the transformation. I always liked the mesh wheels... Maybe it was my first car.... but once I saw the YearOne snow flake wheels I fell in love.
So now the process of getting them to work. If I didnt have a 4th gen rear end I would have have 0 issues with getting them to fit right in the rear. But as usual nothing is that easy. I started to mock up exactly what they would look like with the size tire size I wanted (275/35r18) ... which is a lot easier said than done. After talking it out with marrow_motorsports who is doing the exact same thing, I decided to order Danko fender flares. What a horrible process that was. I would highly recommend going with another kit if at all possible. It took way too long to get to me even though they said 3-5 weeks, and they were just about impossible to get in touch with. The goal was to be finished for Fall Cruise Week in Ocean City Maryland. While I was waiting for the flares I started doing body work... keep in mind I have never done any of this before... So there was a huge learning curve. But for a first timer it didn't turn out that bad after a little wet sanding.
You can see the front is fine... the rear needs the flares:
So these are the 275/40r18... yeah the were not going to work.
Just wanted to see what they would look like all on.
Lots of head scratching to see how I could use my current wheels to get a rough estimate at the new wheel offset and tire size to see if it was even possible to run... I ended up stacking washers to do this.
Once I saw that this could possibly work I got some sticky tires. I didnt want to pay for r888's but I wanted the low tread wear. So I found a set of escatta tires... cheap and fit the description. I decided to go with them and see how they preformed. So far so good. Very sticky in the dry and even the wet. Would highly recommend them.

The Next pictures are of the body work process.
Ended up getting new fenders. The other ones were so far gone and already had a bunch of body work done to it due to someone not jacking the car up in the right spot.... should be fun putting everything back together...
Rear flares on
The moment of truth.... the flare did end up coming in a bit more once I screwed and glued it onto the car so It rubs a very small amount on the inner fender but nothing major.
Rough idea on a spoiler....
Friend welding my gas cap up... lesson learned, use thicker metal and tig.
Highly recomend grabbing yourself a JB out door supply hammock.... small company based out of GA and all hand made. CHECK THEM OUT

Both hoopties together

SIDE NOTES:
*I also decided to make a front splitter and side skirts.... the front splitter came out a lot better than the side. I think if I had to-do it over again I would use 1/2" instead of 1/4" just to get ride of the waviness. Sounds like a winter time job to me.
*Also, one thing to keep in mind is that when you do run these flares you have to fab up new fender liners.... ask me how I know....
Finished Product
Breaking in the new Year One wheels
you can see the custom gas cap
