Grant Wheel Horn

I just installed the grant steering wheel, the one with the four spokes and the number was 414. the horn doesn't seem to work. i cant see how it would cuz it needs to be grounded and the disc that the horn is attached to cant be grounded as i can see. i didn't use some washer that came with the horn kit, could that be the problem. but the horn works if i take the wire and touch a ground.

does the metal sleeve that goes on the shaft need to be there, cuz i forgot to put it on, but the wheel works fine, minus the horn. does the disc that the horn is connected to need to be metal side facing me or the brown side.

My horn works great. The only problem is that I diden't install it. I know that the horn cover does not need to be on there. When I replaced my turn signal lever I took it off and the horn still worked. I'll see if I can't get my lazy @$$ outside and pop off that cover to see how it's wired.

If that wire needs to be grounded, just ground it to the shaft, I'm pretty sure that's a good ground. Does the wheel come with instructions?

no what i meant was the horn will sound if that wire is grounded. so the horn button is suppose to ground the horn and make it sound.

I just put that grant wheel in my firebird last week. You should have gotten a foil sticker in your instalation kit. This sticker goes on the wheel and then you contact plate goes on with those 3 bolts. Then put the spring in and the horn button on and it should work. My horn didn't work at first either because grant forgot to put this detail in the great (yeah right) instructions in the kit.

The horn needs to be grounded to the wheel adapter hub that the wheel screws to. The adapter is grounded thru the steering column, thus will ground the horn. Mine was already installed, but I've had it off and there is a wire going to a screw on the hub adapter that grounds the horn.

There should be 2 male connectors on the horn assembly. One on the inner horn button and one on the outer "foil" piece. The outer one is the one you want to ground to the adapter. If the male connector is broken off, then solder the wire directly to it.

The foil grounds to the bolts holding the wheel on the hub.

ok i get it, i guess the foil wasn't in my kit. i gotta go to kragen tomorrow and tell them the kit was incomplete. there is no connector on the horn button. but i see how it would work if i had the foil piece. the disc goes in the button and the spring will hold the disc off of the foil untill u push the button. i just need the foil!

i think kragen sold me the wrong kit. it doesn't come with the foil sticky sticker. so i just sanded the paint off my wheel where the disc would hit. it works perfectly.
