My friends silver 85 iroc he recently got into a wreck with. Drivers side top rail is wrinkled front to back and the strut tower/battery tray is crushed in. I know looking at 2 pictures isn't ideal but would damage like this even be worth attempting to fix? Supposedly the car still drives ok

IMO - NO.

I'm betting that the front wheel(s) rub when turned all the way to one side or the other. With that kind of impact there's almost NO WAY POSSIBLE that drivers side frame rail is still in the original position.

Sure; anything can be "fixed". I wouldn't waste 1 more minute thinking about it,..... I'd be stripping it of all parts that are worthy and calling the scrap yard for a tow.

Part it out or rip the front end off, make a fully tubular non-street legal drag car.

 

John has a point...there's probably additional damage your not seeing. I'd get the opinion of a good body shop as to the extent of the damage.

That said, it will depend on cost Vs. value to the owner. I see it's had an LS swap. So it appears the owner is willing to spend some $$$ to build the car he wants. If there's an emotional attachment to this car, or he enjoys major body projects, a challenge, etc., then only the owner can decide how much is too much.

All comes down to repair cost vs cost of another car/shell.

Yes it can be fixed. But at what cost?

 

Can you restore this? Sure you absolutely can, but it's not worth it. If you did fix this yourself there is almost no scenario where it costs you less then buying another Thirdgen and transferring your good parts over. And unless you fixed this with a massive and beefy Jig or alignment rack there is no guarantee that the car would even be straight.

 

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping for not worth it responses. He was hung up on it being a "rare" color but finally saw the light after we found about 20 decent sub $1500 cars. Way cheaper then fixing the frame damage on the other.
