1982/1983 front bumper grills accidentally painted

I am having my 1982 firebird trans am painted the original spectra red. I am getting it in single stage paint. However, at the shop I noticed that they accidentally painted the front grills red. But it is supposed to be black!

What do you think I should tell them to do? Tell them to just remove the red with a paint remover so that the black will show? Or just tell them to paint it black?

Any suggestion? I just want to make sure the car is done right and looks ORIGINAL!

They will never look right. Tell them to take a hundred bucks off the bill and get yourself a new set.

Did the paint shop just say " Hey, I think I'll paint these black grilles red." WTF, I'd be asking for more than $100 off.
What's the name of this place....Earl Scheib????/

Really though, get some new ones.

Did you tell them in your instructions NOT to paint those pieces? If yes then they should rectify them (or offer cost reduction) without problem but if you didn't actually tell them not to do that, you might have a problem getting them to fix those without extra cost. Either way I'd have them unpainted as a first choice but if you want them painted then I would go with a matt black finish personally. Good luck with the paint shop.

Re: 1982/1983 front bumper grills accidentally painted

The car was in an accident, so I had to buy a used bumper. The bumper was in excellent condition with the grills in good condition too. The owner said his guy painted the grills red and he told me he was concerned. But then he said the paint is good because it "acts as a primer". But then he said he would paint it black.

I didint tell them NOT to paint the grills, but it should be obvious cause my old bumper it was black and not painted, and the new bumper is black and not painted.

I am honestly afraid the paint will cause the grills to break considering its not supposed to even be painted in the first place. And you know how those grills break over the years :/
