1988 Trans Am Restore, rear spoiler clips

Hello guys/gals!!!

Believe it or not but it's been 4 years since I last logged in here. Back in 2014 I sold my beloved 88 Trans Am. Just last January I bought it back after a long 3.5 years... it was in rough shape, the gentleman i had sold it too passed away from cancer and left it to his grandson who let it sit in a field behind a repair shop for 2 years... well i had intentions of having it on the road last summer but it never happened. But this is the year and I've already started work on it. Main question why im here is i recently replaced my factory rubber spoiler in **** poor shape with a nicer not cracked/rotted factory spoiler but need the plastic clips for along the glass. Now if anyone can post the GM part # i would greatly appreciate it but last i called they said they as DC and no stock available. If this is true i will have some 3D printed and will be selling thwm in a pack of 6 if anyone is interested. Ill post pics and more info to keep this thread alive but its nice to be back on here and have my car back. Thanks for reading yall!!

Re: 1988 Trans Am Restore, rear spoiler clips

P/N 20556524 No.6 on the chart.

Back when I was restoring my TA,I went to my local GM Dealer for those Fasteners and they were discontinued then but the counter guy printed out for me a list of dealers who did have them in their inventories. Here is the list, you may want to call some of them to see if they still have them, remind you this list was printed in 2011.maybe you could ask your local dealer if they could do the same for you with an updated version.

Good Luck

Funny you mention that Bob, my 86 doesn't have or didn't use that part, maybe because of the 3rd Brake Light IDK.

Apparently that part was excluded for at least 1 of your cars 88 GTA and maybe your TTA also.

GM sells them for 4.86 each plus tax. I'll sell them for 4.50 each plus a small amount to ship USPS. Would be $54 for 12. These are made of a stronger material than the factory clip. But i just found out car pac offers them in bulk 25 for $12.50... bummer to me

Re: 1988 Trans Am Restore, rear spoiler clips

Quick question since i will be putting my Hawks spoiler on soon...the third brake light that goes under the spoiler, where does the wire go? Assuming that there is a hole in the deck lid that the wire feeds through and connects somewhere on the inside of the trunk.

Yes there is 3 holes in the center of your decklid under spoiler. 2 are mounting holes for bolts and 1 is for the 3rd brake light with and rubber grommet. Remove the plastic panel under your decklid and you'll see bolts and connector.

Thank you for the explenation. My Fomula has the aero package code, but doesnt have the holes in the decklid, nor does it have the hatch mounted light. Must have been filled in or replace at some point in its life.

Not sure where you are located but I have a rear hatch with no spoiler from a 90 Formula, same color as your car. Been sitting in my garage for 5+ years came off a Formula I parted out. You come pick it up its yours. Save you the hassle of drilling holes in yours if wanted...
