Trans Am rear quarter damage

I have an 85 Trans Am that I'm restoring that was in an accident by the PO that smashed in the rear passenger quarter panel beyond repair. I read a few threads about them being replaceable, but how do you get at the seam? And are the Goodmark replacement panels any good?

Which seam? The one to the roof panel is a bit hidden under filler. The rest of them are pretty obvious.

Goodmark panels for thirdgens are most likely going to be offshore imports from Taiwan.

Yes I was referring to the room seam. It seems the general process is to remove the interior plastics, carpet, seats, etc. Then drill out the spot welds, and weld in a new panel, right? And thank you for the heads up, I'd like to buy a quality panel when I do the repair.

Re: Trans Am rear quarter damage

I've had good luck with Goodmark panels/hoods. I had to repair my driverside quarter where the P/O backed into a fence post, it too was beyond repair. Instead of taking the entire quarter off though I simply cut out the portion of the replacement quarter that I needed and had it welded in.

Here's the thread for my repair.

I will definitely read up on cutting and splicing in a new panel. Thanks for the feedback on the Goodmark ones, I think I just need to reskin the panel, but unfortunately the damage covers most or the panel, so it might just be worth it for me to replace the entire panel.

Quality is good, just don't want you to be surprised about the origin. Most all repro stampings are going to be out of Taiwan.

And yeah, you can do the whole panel or cut patch panels.
