Rear quarter panel damage
Like the title states, I have some rear quarter panel damage. It doesnt appear to be that bad, but i may be wrong. Looks like it could be bumped/pulled out. I will try an upload some pics of the damage so some of you can access the actual damage and share your opinions..Thanks.

that ain't that bad, I'd pop the interior plastics off and try to hammer it out as much as possible. or you could bring it to a shop and have them pull it out. did it effect the gap around the gas cap at all?

I think it missed it, ill pull off the cover and inspect tomorrow.

Looks like about 6-8 hrs. of body work and about 3 hrs. to refinish the quarter panel plus material costs. Probably about 90 to 110 for materials. So to answer your question, between 9 to 11hrs of labor.

looks like its been that way for a while.........a stud welder would be the easiest way to fix it, wipe on the fiber glass, hit it with a lil filler prime and block and should be straight if u do it right, might be able to knock it out from the inside, but it looks like a pretty good crease

Im not necessairly looking for the cheapest alternative here, is there a possibility of cutting out a section of the panel and replacing it or just the bump n fill?

believe me itll turn out worse if u cut it out..........if you are scared of bondo i have news for you, some new cars come from the factory with filler pn them, if you use it right body filler is just as nice as steel, try ever coat rage.......

Take a body repair class at your local tech school. Use your car as your project.

If you are not looking to do this yourself, and have the money to have it fixed, i would definitely have it massaged back and use filler to smooth. You will be opening up a whole can of worms if you weld in new metal. The only way to do it "right" would be to have the entire rear quarter replaced and that would cost a lot more than having it knocked out, and the result would not be that much better in the end. I would expect you would pay around $600 - $800 to have that fixed by a pro, including all materials.

I can't see your picture, because of a block on my work computer, however unless the quarter panel is badly ripped, it is best to straighten it rather then cut it out and weld in a new one. Most body shops cut the quarter panel off at the side edge of the car, where the quarter panel becomes flat to meet the trunk lid of the car, instead of at the roof panel like the factory does it. They do that so as not to disturb the interior and on some cars the rear window. It is difficult to get the seam to look right, and they will have to use a lot of filler to hide it. Years ago I owned a 1970 Shelby GT 350, which sustained a tear in the right rear quarter when I ran over a piece of iron laying on a rail road track. The body shop cut the lower part of the quarter panel off, ordered a new one, cut it up, and pieced it back together. The car was messed up. It looked bad, made popping noises when driven over a rough surface, and the body filler cracked a year later. After I sold the car to a collector, he had a restoration specialist remove the patched quarter panel, rear glass, and interior parts, fitted a replacment quarter panel to the car at the original seams, finished it like the factory, and the car resumed it's former glory. The orignal panel could have been straightened, and welded, and the repair would have been better.

I am going to attempt to fix it myself, I am curious to what you did with yours?

I got quotes from two local body shops $800 and $1000, I will gamble on doing it myself and if it looks like I did it I will take it to them and have them fix it, but I have to try, I don't think I will make it worse.

Actually, it was a mountaineer. I havent done anything with it yet. I think ill take it to a shop and have it fixed as well as have the entire car painted and refreshed (no dings), that is once I have the funds for it.

Hammer It out with a hammer and dolly(able to get them from local parts store (ie auto zone, Napa etc), remove the interior pieces and hammer it out Straight and slap some filler on it. Just remember Try to keep your bondo under an 1/8 to a 1/16th of an inch deep so you will have as little possibility of it cracking. If I were you I would do this and go ahead and repaint the whole car, unless the paint is pretty good looking.

Since it is, hammer it out straight and keep the bondo really thin. Thats all you will have to do. thats the same situation I have on my '92 Rs. It has a dent in the same spot except on the other side and I used the hammer and dolly to get it out except i have yet to bondo it up.

No problem! I am thinking of pulling the engine and coating the bay with POR-15 and then have everything painted, would any of you recommend this as being ideal?
