Replacement Door Latches/restoration
Good Morning,
I'm about done with the restoration of my Camaro but lack a few things. I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND DECENT DOOR LATCHES! Mine were smooth wore out. Plastic worn off latch, rubber inside latch for the door striker stop busted up. Has anyone ever messed with restoring them? Or know of any aftermarket vendors? Thanks in advance!

If you dig deep into the books and Google, and pour over the part numbers, you'll find that GM changed the part numbers often. There are no less than three distinct variations of the thirdgen door latch, with no less than a dozen part numbers. Depending on the year of the car, some of the part numbers cross over to other applications that are currently offered as reproduction parts. I won't make a specific recommendation, but if you REALLY dig in, some other GM vehicles use the same latches, like the 1980's G-body, and S10.
At the very least I'd recommend comparing your actual latch, and photos of the reproductions, and take your chances.
FWIW the plastic portion of the door latch is really just a thin cover that doesn't matter much in the grand scheme as long as it isn't jamming up the works. Early thirdgens use the same latch without the plastic.
