Fiberglass first-timer

I'm about to reinforce my headliner with some fiberglass. Are there any tips or tricks I should rebebmer? Also, will the headliner stick to fiberglass? I was going to put it on the front, not the back. Should I, or shouldn't I do this? I don't want to fiberglass it and not be able to get my headliner to stick to it. If I leave it a little rough should I be ok with that?

If you've used fiberglass before it's pretty easy. Just mix up a batch of resin and paint it onto your headliner board (after you've pulled off all the fabric of course.

If you haven't used it before...just read the directions on the resin can. All you have to do is dump some resin in a container...add your liquid hardener and mix it well.

You can choose to also use fiberglass cloth or fiberglass mat to make the fiberglass resin that much stronger, but this is at your discretion.

When I re-did my headliner, I chose to use a little fiberglass cloth with a fairly thin coating of resin. It came out very strong compared to what it used to be. Just be careful...fiberglass can be a royal pain if you get it on anything your wearing.

Your best bet is to hit a WalMart or something and pick up a pack of cheapy paint brushes...and use them to brush the liquid resin onto your headliner board. Don't buy good paint brushes since the fiberglass will surely trash them once it cures.

I was about to put the fiberglass coth on, but decided a resin bath would be easier. So, I just mixed up a bunch of the resin/hardener and poured it on the headliner. It turned it a nice red because I let it soack in good. It wasn't too bad to begin with. I'm hoping to be able to finish up with the front, and do a little on the back around the edges. Hopefully this badboy will turn out to last longer than the car since it will practicaly be two slabs of resin with the headliner material in the center.

I hope mine lasts too ;-) I ended up putting more resin on the unseen portion than I did on the actual headliner side of things. I didn't want it all distorting. I gave it a nice sanding before I put the material on...and you'd never know ;-) hehe

Good Luck with it man!
