T Top Swap

I have a 86 Z28 with the large pin T Tops. I need to swap out them because the plastic edge trim is broken. I have a set of Small pin tops from a 88 and all the bracketry from the 88. My question is can this be done? Is it as simple as swapping the mounting brackets from the 88 to my car? Has anyone attempted this before? Any info would help me greatly, TIA.

Re: T Top Swap

Easily done -- just swap the t-top pins over from your old t-tops to the new ones. Just be ready for the spring to shoot the pin 15 feet as soon as you remove the c-clip that holds the pin/spring on.

Re: T Top Swap

Don't need to swap anything, just put them on the roof and lock in place. The 86 used 'small pin' T-Tops from the factory,... so they should fit just like the originals.

Re: T Top Swap

The lexan tops in the 86 fit perfectly, the 88 tops dont lock in. The tops in the 86 arent original, theyre from a TA. The PO says the original tops were stolen from the car so he replaced them with TA tops. They have a small but noticeable downward angle to them in the center, hence why I wanna change them.
