Some hack jobs are almost genius!

Finally got around to taking apart the rear of this 86 so I can stand i awe of more rust and found this. Oddly enough the lock on the hatch works perfectly and one of the only things on this car that does haha pretty sure this is not factory. Any idea what these screws are replacing?

That used to be a pull-down unit. Looks like most of it has been removed and the screws are keeping the tracks in place so it can't slide up or down. Pretty terrible "hack" really.

Yep, the moving portion is only anchored to the fixed part by the threaded rod on the motor, and the plastic housing of the motor. The plastic gets brittle with age, and retards think they have to slam the hatch with Hulk hands, which shatters the plastic housing around the three screws that hold it together. Then the moving part just falls out. The screws are someone's fix to jam the moving portion in place.

Why change out the pull down when you can just disable it and turn it into the newer version!?

Ya to be honest I only just got around to taking the cover off yesterday. Have no idea about the part yet or how it is supposed to operate only that the key locks and unlocks lol (its my first camaro) I guess ill have to take a look at the rpo code list and see what originally came with the car. But agreed a new version would be best.
