1986 CHMSL Screws

Does anyone know the right size screws for the 1986 CHMSL light? Mine are rusty. I pulled one out once when I was at a mom and pop hardware store. We couldn't find the right size. Everything was too big or too small. Does anyone know the right size screw? I want mine to look nice.

GM part # 20676548. Generally, the GM parts catalog will give a size if it's applicable. All it says in the three or four catalog listings I can find for that screw is that it's "SPL" as in special, and nylon coated. One place calls it a 5x.08. Apparently they used the same screw on J-bodys, aka the Cavalier family of fine autos, in 1986, and for the CHSML. If you could find a junkyard stuck in the past that hasn't crushed all of those things (a travesty of justice), you could probably get em for nothing.

Best bet would probably be to put a want ad in the classifieds, or hit up Ebay.

If they are just rusty, but fine, throw them in a cup of one of the many rust-b-gones bought at any hardware or big box lumber stores. Let them sit in there for a day or two and the rust will be gone. Get you a can of some good rattle can paint for them too and poof...new screws!

Had this same problem. Went the rust-remover/spray paint, route as well. They look perfect now. I have since, switched to a 91-92 hatch, after the cover got cracked by road debris. Is the cavalier cover the same? I'm pretty sure I know where one of those are...
