I’m looking to purchase a Ram Air I hood for an 82-92 firebird. Cannot find them anywhere except for the duraflex version which I do not want.
anybody have any information on these? I tried contacting Hawks twice via email with no response. Have they been discontinued? Anyone know where I can get one?
The Duraflex version appears to be the only one still available. I've not seen one in person, but plenty of videos on youtube complain about and show the embarrassingly poor quality of Duraflex hoods. Carbon Creations/Extreme Dimensions are all part of the Duraflex "family," and none of the brands receive good reviews, that I see.
American Sports Car was the original creator of the Ram Air 1 hood (I think). It offers the Camaro SS hood, but no hoods for 3rdgen Firebirds at all (anymore). I've emailed about it, but never received a reply. I even mentioned, "You offer hoods for freaking Grand Ams, but nothing for Firebirds? Are you kidding me?" I also asked about a 3rdgen Firebird version of the SS hood, but again, never received a reply. Probably insulted their intelligence with my Grand Am comment, do ya think? But their reply probably would've gone something like this, "Grand Am owners spend, so maybe if 3rdgen owners weren't cheap af..."
Suncoast Creations - Home | Facebook in Florida used to offer its own version of the Ram Air 1 hood, but that hood's been gone for many years, too. I've never tried to contact SC, but who knows? Maybe if someone tries...
Can't say I'm necessarily a fan of the Ram Air 1 hood, but as aftermarket hoods go, its lines and lower rise are more fitting of the car's design than most other hoods, IMO.
The best looking aftermarket hood for 3rdgen Firebirds, IMO, is the ISMA hood. Thought to be extinct for about a third of a century, but it's apparently been available for the last decade, or so, under the radar, from Quality Custom Fiberglass Car Hoods by FiberConcepts 1-800-672-1238 (fiberpartsconcepts.com) Who knew? A brand new one rose up from out of ashes last summer during the pandemic, listed by the company on ebay, sold near year's end, around the announcement of the $600 stimulus checks. Sure looked nice! Don't know who got it. Nobody on TGO has mentioned it. I kept it a secret and hoped it would go unnoticed until I was able to buy it, but someone got it. When the pandemic began, and my employer closed, I didn't expect to be out of work for a year. Did anyone, really? So I spent a lot of money early-on. Then, BAM, what, not reopening until 2021? So I couldn't allow myself to buy the hood, and when I could, it was gone. Then shortly after the hood sold, I found a Firebird for sale online, and it had an ISMA hood on it. That's something we don't see everyday. Coincidence? Didn't see the ad on TGO. Haven't seen the car show up on TGO. No recent mention of an ISMA hood on TGO either. Mysterious...
that is a lot of great information thanks for that!! I checked out that web site and it does show they offer a 2.5” Ram air hood but no pics available. I might give them a call and see if they can send me some photos to make sure it looks the same.
I thought the Ram air I hood was very popular so I’m puzzled why all of these companies are discontinuing them, or maybe I’m mistaken and they weren’t selling.
if anybody wants to sell their Ram Air I hood or has any other helpful info please chime in!

Looks like you just missed one on this site because someone just bought one that was for sale. I have had mine bought from Hawks for about 6 years. I think I made a good choice because I love it. I had it shipped from the US in a container that I was bringing to Australia. Maybe give Hawks a call?

I called Hawks 3 more times and nobody picks up the phone over there. Still no replies to any of my emails. Not sure what's going on over there, guess they don't want business?
Anybody deal with "Showcars-bodyparts" for hoods? They show a Ram Air I hood, i'm curious on quality.

My guess is that like just about every company right now, they can't get enough help, business is booming, materials are in short supply, etc. etc. etc.
I have never heard of or seen anyone post with good things to say about Showcar parts as far as fit and finish are concerned.
is it in the for sale section? Any pics? Why selling if it’s new?
Its not int the for sale forum. Last night is was looking through the forums for brake/wheel info and stumbled across this thread. So I made an account to gauge interest and possibly sell it. I bought the hood new from ascd in the early 2000's mounted it and then went to school/started a job and family. The hood was on the car in a garage for the better part of 20 years. This winter i took it off to put on a stock 82 hood. I never painted it. It has the gray fiberglass and some primer. Its mint. Its a latch on not a pin on. It has no cracks/chips or spider web cracks that some glass hoods get.

I'll get pictures.
P. S. Im in CT
I've been looking for one of these hoods for the last 6 years. What are you looking to get for it?
In regard to Hawk's not answering/picking up, I saw on their IG that there system has been down and they're doing what they can to get it back up and running. Not saying this was the issue, because they're definitely not always on top of things, but......you know.....just to be fair, lol.
There is a formula for sale in the Houston area (autonation i think) with a ram air I hood on it. Not sure what brand but you could always buy the car swap the hood and sell it if all else fails.
