Locks on spare tire cover and left side storage compartment.
Locks on spare tire cover and left side storage compartment.
So this is my first 3rd Generation Camaro I've bought. I have 2nd gens but also liked the 3rd Gen look. So I found that the spare tire cover and storage compartment that are locked do not open with the door / hatch back key. I've searched for these and only found one on ebay for the storage compartment. Could someone give me a direction to go or where these can be purchased? Looking this Z over, I'll have few more questions. TYIA,

A Locksmith can key all the locks to the same code for you. It's very inexpensive. I had to do this when I rebuilt my TA.You'll need to remove the interior locks and take your door key... The spare storage area can be flexed past the point of the latch pretty easily if it's warm. For the hatch area, you'll have to remove the tail lamps and fillers, and there should be rivets holding the lock bezel in place. (Might be a bit different on the Camaro...not sure)

Re: Locks on spare tire cover and left side storage compartment.
If it's the same type of lock as the storage compartment lock, then it IS a storage compartment lock that had been removed from a random 3rdgen, and it should have a key of its own, unless said owner keyed it to match the storage compartment/door/hatch locks, which he apparently didn't. And since your storage compartment lock also doesn't work with the door/hatch key, there's a good chance that lock has been replaced, too, which means it would have, yet, a different a key, one of its own.
Like everyone has said, a locksmith can probably resolve your issues by keying the locks to match your door/hatch key. But I'd think the first step, if you haven't done it already, would be to contact the person from whom you purchased the car to ask him about these missing keys. I'd hate to think his reply might be, "gosh, I never tried to open either of those locks, so I didn't know the door key wouldn't work in them, I just always assumed..."
