Hey Guys,
My Ls1 swap has hit another bump in the road, and my exhaust won't clear the firewall because it's not mirrored on each side.
There's a hump that comes out that I suspect is part of the chassis, but was wondering if anyone can confirm, and if so, if I was to notch it, similar to the A/C k-member notch setup, would this still maintain structural integrity?
FYI this is a RHD converted setup in Australia. These headers are the only type I've been able to find that clear on the steering shaft side (RHS). Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Edit: This picture is with the frontmost exhaust bolt in, and swinging the exhaust header upwards, the collector section hits on the bump to the left of the brake hardline.
If I could notch it back to the firewall everything would clear.
You may have to get really creative with how you fit those headers. Mine have to go in at the same time as the engine, but cant be bolted to the engine as its going in. Sounds crazy but its the only way they fit. That is going in from the top of course. Could we see a larger picture of that firewall area?
Does the collector clear if you try to installed the header from the top?
No, so I can place the headers in the bay no problems, but when I move them into place to align with the exhaust bolt holes, the whole section of the collector (not the flange) hits on that section of the chassis/firewall.
To fix it the engine would have to come forward an inch or more, but then the other exhaust header would hit on my RHD steering shaft.
