Bump stop modifications after LS1 brake upgrade
Bump stop modifications after LS1 brake upgrade
What has anyone done after doing the LS1 brake upgrade where you had to cut off the bump stop off the spindle. Now if you turn the wheel to far it hits the caliper. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if I saw it here, but I saw where a guy moved the bracket that the bump stop hits to hit in a different spot. I just finished a ls1 swap and haven't gotten that far yet. I will be definitely making something.

I drilled out the rivets then made my own steering stops and bolted them in place of the originals. I used the originals as a starting point and adjusted the shape and angle for the new brake setup.

I think I used 12g steel. It’s close to 1/8” thick. The most difficult part for you will be cutting out the shape needed. I was fortunate enough to have access to both material and a band saw at my old job. It can still be done if you can use a cutoff wheel, it’ll just take a while. Otherwise it’s simple, common tools like a vise, hammer, file, drill and bits.

If you look in the background, you can see one of them in the second picture in this post. It's not quite the same angle as the factory steering-stop.
The downside is that my turning circle is smaller now.
If you keep driving around with your factory steering stops, you will eventually end up with a leak at your brake-hose mounting point.

This is what I did, except I cut part of the old ones off and repositioned the new pieces I welded on.

Re: Bump stop modifications after LS1 brake upgrade
Does the steering-stop still make contact with the caliper, or does it hit the bracket?
Because if it hits the caliper, it will push the pistons in on really tight turns, and reduce your braking performance for the next couple of pedal applications.
I noticed this in parking lots shortly after installing the kit on my car (before I modified the stop).
Ex: I'd back out of a tight parking space, and the next time I stepped on the brake, the pedal went to the floor. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on.

Think it's hitting the caliper bracket?
