“Rust” underneath old spoiler
Hey guys,
Today I removed the old rubber spoiler for my 90 Firebird. However, where each side of the spoiler was bolted down, there is a rust looking residue on the trunk lid. I don’t know if it was from the old spoiler being so bad and it dripping stuff on my paint or what. Just looking to see how to get rid of it.

I'd start with soap and gentle agitation with a plastic bristled brush, nonabrasive kitchen sponge, toothbrush, something like that. Get it clean and see what isn't dirt.

You can try some Meguiars ultimate rubbing compound.
It helps remove stains etc...

If in fact some rust, evapo-rust works great and is gentle. if it were me, I'd try that first before moving to a polishing agent, which may grind micro rust swirls into nearby paint. otherwise do the polishing agent by hand.
