Ok guys and girls, before i start....... I've looked all over the web without any success so please dont be rude and tell me to do a search.... I have. offer help or move on please.
Now, i have a 92 T/A with power windows. the passenger side window has never worked since i've owned the car. but i always ac so it didnt really bother me. now that ive completely built the car, i have no ac. so my question is, how do i remove the passenger door panel with the window in the up position? Everything i've foubd says that i need to have the window down. Thanks in advance TGO members!

Re: door panel removal

First question is WHY doesn't it work...?... Is it the motor or the switch?... These switches are not that great so I would first make sure it's not that...

Getting the panel off is tougher without the window down... But not impossible... The truck is usually you tip the bottom out to release the tabs it hooks over... If you can release those, the panel pops up. If you can locate them, I think there are three... It should release... Can't say I have done this before.... Good luck...

I'm guessing the motor is shot. I've switched out the window switches and got the same results.

Re: door panel removal

I'm not sure it's possible, but there's a cutout area in the weather seal plastic behind the door panel with a little metal **** that sticks out where it looks like the power window motor is. Maybe you could pop the panel loose, and manually rotate it to get the glass down? Having just done this, I think it would be very difficult to get the top plastic off the metal humps in the door with the glass pressing on it the way it does when it's up.

Re: door panel removal

The door panel will come off with the window up. You'll just have to push in on the top, towards the window, hard enough to flex the weatherstrips, and unhook the trim from the door.

Re: door panel removal

Have you tried sitting in the passenger's seat with the door open, holding the window switch down, and slamming the passenger's door shut? Sometimes that gets a bad motor to work one last time when you need to move the window for motor replacement.

If that doesn't work, Drew's instructions for removing the panel with the window up are spot on.

Re: door panel removal

The motor is in the lower left corner.... you can remove al lthe door trim / arm rest etc... and you can pop the little xmas tree clips holding the panel to the door.

You can get access to the window motor connectors and try to apply.... DIRECT POWER (echoy voice) to the motor. and that might be enough to get it to go down or you can tap it with a hammer as you apply power to see if it'll work.

Its possible to get the panel off with the window up but NOT easy at all.....
