Has anyone ever twisted thire t-tops with to much HP.

I have T-top and am wondering if sub frame connecters are going to be all I need, or should I be worried about getting something else.

>BTW has anyone learned the hard way and twisted them up?

It's usually too much torque but that usually comes with any high hp v8. So yeah, I guess you could say too much hp will tweak your car IF you can get lots of traction.

In my 82 GT Cobra I blew out a T-top while shifting hard into third gear. I know it was a mustang but I loved that car especially after building up the 302 and put in a 4.xx motorsport rear that Ford had to replace three times since they warranteed it as an unbreakable rear....finally sold the car after racing a Camaro and "banged" second gear and ripped the drivers seat right out of the floor boards and almost killed myself. By the way after I blew out the t-top the new one never sealed right and my wife always got a puddle of water in her lap when taking off in the morning. It also bulged out the quaterpanels above the rear wheels. After that I have learned that anything above 300hp in these cars get connectors.

This is why Ford stopped T-tops in the Mustangs and Capris. I've heard of many people with fox bodys blowing out their t-tops. I think the f-bodies will flex more without breaking t-tops becouse of the reenforced frame. I've never heard anyone with a thirdgen blowing out their glass but any subframe connector or other chassis stiffining product would help prevent flex.

I have seen (was behind the car) when he went to take off on a light and shattered one and threw the other outta the roof rails onto the road. He also had a Procharger. The next day he ordered sub frame connectors and the 8 point roll cage with the low door rails. Never happened again.

I heard some guy with a GN blew out his T-tops at the strip.

Actually, to stay on topic, My second Formula, is beginning to stress crack from the twisties. Since it was that way when I bought it, I will fix it, or sell the car. Its not really bad yet, just I can see a little stripe of rust where the metal is fatiguing.

Actually I see more hard tops with that little stress split in the upper-rear corners of the window opening then T-top cars.

Torque! Not HP. I don't think there is any exact number that says your t-tops will crack when you have this much torque. Roll cage and SFC prevent a lot of body flex so unless you have ungodly amounts of torque, slicks, and stick 'em to the track I woulden't worry about it. One night with my new engine I stomped it in front of friends and my drivers side tire picked up like a few inches while my passenges stayed planted and my Tees show no signs of cracking. So unless you can pick 'em both up and again get awesome traction with that cage and SFCs don't worry about it that much.
