hi all, this is my first post on here, sorry if this has been asked before
i was looking into buying a 3rd gen firebird, and have found one for $5k with only 60k original miles. this seems like a good deal, but my question is whether i would be able to swap in a front bumper from a 1987-1990 Trans Am GTA(first picture) into it, as i prefer the look of these more (and found a decent amount of partouts in my area). when looking at the 1991 and 92 models of the firebird i notice that they have noticably smoother front ends(also pictured below) and seemingly not having correct spacing for the space in the headlght and foglight. if it is possible, would i need to buy a separate headlight and foglight? Thanks to anyone who can help
No, you cannot. It is illegal. Dont take a nice car with only 60k miles and butcher it into something it was never intended to be. Go buy what you actually want.
Yes you can, you'll need the front end and correct year headlights (also the corrosponding connectors for them). I bet attaching the ground effects on the side will be a bit of a pain just making sure they are straight with all of the gaps but everything is doable. What year/model is the car your thinking of buying? I assume its a formula?
I'm doing the exact opposite, i have an 87 formula 70k mile car that i'm converting to a 91-92 style formula. I have the 92 formula front end and headlights, 92 formula rear bumper, I had to cut the 87 bumper to accept the 92 blinkers.

At $5k it probably doesn't matter cause it's gotta be a wreck, flood, shell, basket case, or (2)60k original miles.
You're looking at buying a 91-92 GTA or Trans Am, and you think you might want to swap the 85-90-style front onto it? It's doable and has been done. For that price, I'm guessing the car might need some restoration or, at least, some refreshing anyway, so save it however you want. Here's a thread from long ago where someone wanted to do something similar. Not sure he ever did it, but he could be someone to reach out to. There's a picture in post #9 to give you an idea of how it will look. converting 91 GTA to 87-90 style - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards
-To do it / make life easy you'll need the 87-90 bumper cover, trans am impact bar or at least the honeycomb, turn signals and headlights along with under bumper duct work / filler pieces and air dam.
Rear bumper you'll need the rear bumper cover and the rear honey comb. cause the 91-92 step down a bit / have a different shape.
The side gfx are gonna be a paaaaaaiiiin cause of the brackets and holes etc...
You can. You'll really need a complete parts car to do it correctly.
it's a lot of work. The 91-2 body is the best to start with due to all the improvements but honestly, it would be better to start with the year you like.
