Acrylic to Glass T-Tops

Acrylic to Glass T-Tops
I'm new here so if this question has already been answered I'm sorry. OK, here goes. I have a 1989 Firebird Formula with the acrylic T-Tops. Right now the car is in the shop getting motor work then it goes in the body shop for a showroom paint job. One of the t-tops is cracked so I want to replace both but I want to replace them with glass. I did find a pair in excellent condition but when I tried to install them they would not lock in. They are both pin style but the acrylic ones has a larger diamenter pin plus the distance from the window to the pin center is 1/4 inch farther away on the acrylic. Can the assembly be switched so that the original assembly is used on the glass top or do I need to stay with the acrylic? I am getting very fustrated with trying to get new tops. Thanks for all help

I'm not exactly sure about your problem--but I don't see why the assemblies couldn't be swapped out--but i'm not sure!
Me and my friend found a pair of lexan tops from a 92 Camaro in the junkyard--he put them on his 91-92 Camaro-which has glass tops--at first they wouldn't lock in, but I moved them around some and pushed down--they locked in nice and tight!! The pins look exactly the same--length and circumferance. I don't see why yours wouldn't directly swap out.

I dont know if this will help or not, but my cousin has a 88 camaro with glass tops. They will not fit on my 91 camaro with acrylic. It is not because of the glass/acrylic. The bolts are diff sizes and are in the wrong spot. I think some time around 89 or 90 they changed these two things in the t-tops. I would suggest looking for some glass tops that have the same size bolts, it should be about the same year as you current car.

Clown,
I noticed this when I picked up my set of Acrylic tops. Look at the Acrylic top pins. I noticed that they LOOKED larger, but in fact there was some sort of black plastic sheeth on a spring that would retract with the pins.
See if you can push in the little black sheeth thingie.
I also picked up the cams and the other pieces where the tops mounted...
Where do you live???
John
