UNIQUE SQUEEK (from ashtray?)
UNIQUE SQUEEK (from ashtray?)
The front ashtray in my 89 T/A used to flip up when you pulled the switch(like it was supposed to). Now you have to pull the little switch and lift the cover up yourself, but that's not the really anoying thing. It squeeks and rattles like crazy! I'm sure it's right there where the ashtray is. Can I fix the spring or whatever it was that made the lid flip up before? Any ways to fix this? I've never seen others post about a squeek in their ashtray before, I need your help guys. Thanks a lot. I'll be so happy when I get that dang thing fixed.

If you take the center console out you will be able to see how the ashtray works. You might just have lost the gear that operates it. Worse comes to worse check out one at a junk yard.
As far as the rattle, i have a very similar problem. The lid has a metal backing to it. It might have come loose. Just run some adhesive behind it and it should cure the problem.
