Another POR-15 question

Has anyone used POR-15 to repair visible body parts, such as quarter pannel wheel lips, that may be a little more than just surface rust? Has anyone used body filler and/or paint on POR-15? Rust free third gens are hard to find up here in MN and WI. Kind of wondering what the limits are of being repairable with POR-15. Thanks for any info.

Also, could the POR-PATCH be used in place of body filler?

I've never used POR15 on exterior surfaces, but they keep adding new items to their catalog, and while I've never used it, the tie-coat primer may be just what you are looking for to go over regular POR15 on an exterior surface.

As for covering holes, I don't think the POR Patch is the right product unless they are only tiny pinholes. The Epoxy Patch would probably be better, but still overkill.

I'd probably suggest POR15 on the rust, then fiberglass with POR15 instead of resin to fill the hole, then normal body filler, cover with tie-coat, primer sealer, sandable primer, paint. Of course cutting and welding in new metal instead of just patching it up would be the real solution to your problem.

I repaired a 1" x 6" section of the floor pan using Por-15 (marine clean, metal etch etc.), their mesh and putty. Note the section above the SFC. I intend to use Por to paint the underside of the car this summer to clean things up (the guy who installed the SFCs isn't a painter, as you see).

OK, I've used POR15 on my new floor pans that were welded in. AND a friend of mine and I used it all over his Jeep (in areas of the Jeep that were re-painted).

Treat it like a primer. If you have rust, clean ANYTHING that flakes (I would also get it down to bare metal if you can). We used paint brushes to apply the POR15 (after using the Marine Clean as directed as part of the process). Keep in mind when doing this in areas that are visible, this stuff is hard as hell to sand (on the Jeep, we weather feather sanding to smooth the body out and sand ALL the paint that was around the POR15-ed area).

I would discourage against cleaning rust, then primer, then POR15. Clean the rust and apply the POR15 system. I believe this is also supposed to work as a primer as well.

DO NOT POR15 OVER BONDO! Bondo can still hold ability to retain moisture and hold that into the body (ergo, potentially ruining a POR15 system)....

POR15 should have all the available steps to use the product. It is a great product and I stand by that stuff. I hope I helped a little bit....
