accident damage

last night a semi turned on a red light and now i have a horrible passenger side. The fender is trashed, the door is badly damaged (dented, no mirror or handle or lock) and the rear quarter is scraped and dented. Working with insurance companies now and was just wondering how much these parts might go for and how much for labor on a quarter panel fix. Thanx

Right Fender - # 1002749 $172.20 - Discontinued
Door Repair Panel # 20187114 $242.99 - Discontinued
Door Lock - $16.28
Door Handle - Black - #20332646 $43.31
Mirror - Sport #20366668 $115.00

I can't see your car, don't know what kind of mirrors, condition of remaining paint, but this is a rough estimate.

Your parts will total about 627.00. Labor will be about 869.00. Paint and materials 260.41 for a rough guess of 1800.00 worth of repair.

Here's where the problems begin. First the OEM parts are no longer available so the insurance company will request aftermarket. Then they will look up the Retail NADA value of your car which is $2025.00 (not adjusting for mileage).

Any damage amount that meets or exceeds about 70% of the retail value will total the car.

So basically what I'm saying is they are going to total your car.

If it is worth more than what I told you .... you might start digging out receipts, photos, work you've done, parts you've replaced......... etc. and get ready for a battle.

That is ......... unless your neck and back have started hurting then they might cooperate a bit more.

Dealing with insurance

Every time I have been in an accident I have always delt with my insurance first. Take a copy of the report to your angent and file a claim with them and pay your deductable. Your car will get fixed faster and it will be done right becuase they want to keep your businuess. Your insurance will then deal with the truck drivers insurance and sue them if necessary, they want their money back too. After witch they will repay your deductable. Its worked for me every time, never refelcts on your insurance rates, and is very painless.

Understand they aren't going to try to settle for 70% of value. That is just a % that most cars are deemed totalled. Insurance companies don't try to total cars they have a cost formula that determines which is in THEIR best interest.

They actually start considering this when the ACV % hits 55%. Here's why. Of course your car is repairable. Most cars are. But if they determine value of car is 2000 and repair is 1800 they are better off paying the 2000 because of future possible repercussions.

Many times body shops can't see all the damage until the car is torn down. Sometimes even after the estimate has been written or even after repairs are completed there are further concealed damage discovered. They have a built in method for dealing with this called a "supplement". You don't have to request it.

Both insurance parties yours and theirs will use the ACV%. Either insurance needs and uses this protection and threatening them with a lawyer goes in one ear and out the other. 9 out of 10 people use this threat and 9 out of 10 don't do a thing about it. That is why they adapted the "Just Say NO Philosophy".

Sure not meaning to argue with anybody..... all of the above are my opinions and experiences.

ya, it is pretty stupid if they tried to total it because its perfectly drivable except the passenger door only opens 6" before it hits the fender. The quarter panel damage is what worries me and after lots of tthought ill fight for the most $ and just get another third gen.

boneyards are nice

you might want to try a local pick it yourself junkyard. the prices may not be bad at all and you may get exactly what you want, only it won't be new.

300, it's totaled. It's easily fixed, but it will be considered a total loss.

It depends on your state laws but try to get as much money as you can without having the title flagged.
