86 to 85 transam instrument cluster swap
86 to 85 transam instrument cluster swap
What is needed to transfer the instrument cluster from an 86 transam to an 85 transam. I have noticed the difference between the two is that the 85 seems mechanical (has a speedo cable), and the 86 doesn't. Other than that they appear nearly identical, except for a few minor differences in the printed circuit attached to the back. The pin connectors appear to be the same on the backs, but just swapping these straight out does not work. I have no gauge response when powering on in the 85, but when it's put back into the 86, the gauges all work fine. Could anyone forward any info on changing this over. It's probably going to be quite a task, but I'm prepared for whatever may be entailed. I'm presuming a wire harness swap, but not sure if the computer needs to be swapped as well, or perhaps there's an easier way.
Thanks

you will at least have to change the sending unit on the transmission...
obviously your speedo will not work, I am sure there is more to it, but I have never done it...
