Need help with 4th gen body...please look

I am looking for a 4th gen...and I think I may have found one....this what the guy told me about the car:

black/black leather,lt1 automatic needs pass quater panel replacement, slight pull, and axcel repair the car still runs and drives mint, just has a squicky brake noise out of pass rear tire, car has over 100000 miles but runs mint, car was female owned oil changed every 3000 miles, custom stereo w/t bose style amp sys, trac control, the air bags did not deploy and are still in good shape.i am asking $3000.00 obo... must see a great deal.

Now the thing that relates this to the board is....how much do you think it will cost to fix this??? Can I use a 4th gen TA quarter fender...does it sound fishy with the axel repair...can this have some kind of frame damage?? How would I see this. I almost bought a beautiful GTA off of him a while back...but he sold it on me before I could get my hands on it. I am looking for a newer car...and this one is pretty cheap. Please let me know if this sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

James

I'd buy it for parts to put on/in my 3rd gen. Car is worth $3000 in parts.

WTF is with callin me a moron?? I treat everyone here with respect....if you dont like what I am posting about, then dont reply. Why are so many people so immature....always try making posts into flames. I specifically stated it was 4th gen related... many times people post about other cars...but it is still car related. There are even stang guys and import guys who hang out on this board...should we ban them from here??? H*ll no. I was asking a question about the BODY of a car...and that fits perfectly under this board. No matter if it is a honda or a TA or a stang...the body work should all be around the same. It is still Fbody related...and if the mediators didnt like it they woulda locked the post. I figured I would ask the more mature people on this board what they thought about cars since many are more experienced than me. Ghey Boi...I appreciate you replying to my post...but one question what does ur reply have to do with the topic????? thanks for everyone elses help.

James

Anyways....I would have to get rid of my 3rd gen to get this 4th gen...that is the main thing that is keeping me from getting this car. I am only 17 and my parents arent too crazy about me having two cars in the driveway ripping one apart. Plus money is a factor at my age...I may just wait till the summer to look for an LS1 a later LT1 or even a TTA

too bad you couldnt keep both your cars-you could swap the drivetrain or intake from the 4th gen into you 3rd gen,and swap interiors-that would be awesome.Sorry you cant have both-if budget is an issue tho i think you should keep your third gen

I wouldn't recommend buying to repair. The biggest thing that would hold me back is the axle problem. They just dont run the same after they take a hit to the drivetrain or suspension. What I would do is, show him 2K cash. Parts may not be to expensive. But labor is what's really gonna cost you unless u know someone in the business. Offer 2K. If he bites, switch everything into your thirdgen. After you switch everything, take the whatever u have left of the TA and whatever u took off your 3rd gen, and sell it at a boneyard. That way u can get back some of the money. Well, that's what I would do.

Peace....

well offering him 2k is a good idea, the car is worth probably that in parts alone, ie engine/trans for like 1 k by itself even with higher mileage then interior for like 5 or 6(seats specifically) and then the airbag and steering wheel etc, then the exterior what isnt hurt, you could probably get over 2k in parts out of it, of course lol i'd keep the seats and sell the trans to a friend and the engine on ebay. anyway thats my 2 cents you could make it worthwhile

Unfotunately I dont have the extra money to just buy this car and I dont have the room to have it sit outside my house. Sooo...it is either my third gen or possibly this car. My grandfather used to be in the autobody industry..so he may still have a few friends that can help me out. Even if not, I found fenders from '94 TA's in black that I could use to replace the damaged ones. The only thing I am really worried about is the axel repair. What do you mean that it will never run the same?? I dont want to buy a car that is going to be totally unfixable or not worth fixing. Please let me know, the guy said he got an estimate of about $1500 to repair the car...so it may be worth buying the car as long as the axel problem isnt going to cause future problems or affect the car greatly. I will be using this car as a daily driver, so that I can look for an LS1 or a TTA in a few months. So please let me know. Thanks for the help so far.

If you can't afford to have both then you probably don't want to get into that 4th gen from the looks of the pix. That would be a great donor car for your (or my) 3rd Gen though. Those seats would be awesome and the engine alone is worth $1500 to $2000 in a junkyard.

Well, judging from what you've said...you're on a tight budget. Right? To solve the axle problem effectively, you would have to replace the entire rearend. My Maro took a hit to the driver's side rear quarter. The hit was hard enough to damage the axle. I replaced both axles but it still hums at 70+mph, and just like you, I'm on a tight budget, which is why I haven't replaced it. That's what I meant by that. My car was fixed for $2.3K at a "mom and pop" shop, so to speak. The Chevy dealership quoted me at least $5K. Insurance totaled it and wrote me a check. Me, not wanting to part with my Maro, I got it fixed for less. Naturally, what you pay for is what you get.

Peace...
