mystery light
mystery light
I got an 91 camaro and underneath the center heat vent there's a little light . The light turn on when I turn my headlight on. I don't know the reason of that I'm not worried about it I'm just curious, and by the way I appologize for my english. Thank for any answer.
It's supposedly to illuminate the ash tray area. If you want to make it useful, do what I did: remove the two screws and pull out the whole thing. Remove the little clear square of plastic (chances are, it's no longer clear). I just popped it out by pushing on it from the inside with a ball-point pen. Drill out the hole in the black part a little bigger. Cut out a square of clear plastic the same size as the original (I just used a piece from one of those divided hardware drawers, but you can buy clear plastic at a hardware store). Glue the square back onto the black piece and reinstall it. The refreshed lens along with the bigger hole lets out a lot more light, so that it actually illuminates the ashtray/shifter area nicely.
Is that light supposed to be on when the headlights are on or only when the door is opened like the dome light. I had my car for 2 years before i knew that light was there also there is a light underneath the drivers side dash and i think there is one on the pass. side also. Is there any place i can find what the replacement bulbs are?? And are there any more lights that i am missing?? and when are they supposed to be on?? Thanks for any help.
The little light under the center vent comes on with the instrumentation lights. The two courtesy lights in the footwells are 194s, and come on with the dome light (doors open or lightswitch rotated full CW.
Re: mystery light
Don't mean to rehash an old thread, but this one pertains to my question. I recently found this little light as well. And i mean it is LITTLE. Besides what Jza did to make it brighter, are there any other ways? I can't believe this tiny little light did anything ever anyhow! What i did (once i found it) was simply take the plastic "lens" piece off and didn't put it back on. It still doesn't cast adequate light to see any better. It'd be real sweet if it illuminated the HVAC controls (or does another light do that?). Is there a brighter bulb available for it? Or is there a way to put a larger more useful bulb in there?
