What is the latest on LS1 brakes?
I have been watching posts about the swap to LS1 front brakes on a thirdgen. When last I heard several guys were working on developing the bracket to mount the caliper to the third gen steering nuckle. What is going on with that bracket? Does anyone have one designed yet? A drawing with dimensions would be really nice.
I will be doing this swap on my '85 IROC over the winter and I'm "chipping away" at buying the necessary parts when I find good deals. If someone has designed a mounting bracket, that would help those of us following in your foot steps.

LS1 Brakes
I was wondering the same thing. It's been a while since this thread started. I've come to the conclusion that I may have to get a spindle and hub (after modification) and do a mock-up and then design the caliper plate myself. With trial and error, it can be done.

A C5 caliper bracket may work if the rotors are the same size, 12", for the LS1 Camaro, but even if the difference is say, 12 1/2", the bracket design is a great starting point.
I believe the calipers for the LS1 Camaro are the same as the standard C5 calipers. There may be a slightly different rotor thickness which would require a different corresponding thickness caliper plate. I'll certainly find out. Send me the contact info for the guy with the C5 plates.
Thanks!

I do not think the C5 caliper bracket will work for the LS1 brake swap. I understand the C5 and LS1 calipers are very similar but the rotors are different. LS1 rotors are 12" diameter where the C5 rotors are 12.75" diameter. I think this will be too much of a difference. Of course SDcal7 has a point that the C5 or even C4 bracket design would get us closer than if we had nothing. I plan to do the same as you guys, keep watching the board and fab my own bracket if nobody else does it first.
By the way, I found a good deal on used LS1 calipers at one of the local salvage yards. I got the left and right calipers (still attached to the caliper carrier), banjo bolts, and useable brake pads that were in the calipers all for $30.
I was concerned about uneven and tapered brake pad wear since the LS1 caliper is a "sliding" type caliper like the 3rd gen caliper. After I checked out the LS1 calipers in my garage, I realized all calipers are not the same. The LS1 are a far superior design than the stock 3rd gen pieces.

You're right about the differing rotor size, but from reading the whole thread on the LS1 brake swap, it appears that the calipers are the same which would at least provide a basic starting point for our purposes.
That's great if you happen to figure out the plate before anyone else. Yes, please post it. I'm just starting to paint my calipers and head to a salvage yard to look for a Camaro spindle so I can start the mock-up and design the plate. Let me know of your progress.

I just got me a set of LS1 front brakes from ebay for 150.00. All I need is this caliper bracket that everybody is talking about making or getting the dimensions for to complete the installation. Has anybody made one yet?

Many thanks MrDude.
I know all about the need for new engines. I started off replacing a blown head gasket last year. Six months and a few thousand dollars later I finally had the new engine (and many other stuff) finished.
