Today I tried to install a new Bendix 12263 master cylinder in my '89 GTA. The brake line fittings that run from the combo valve to the master cylinder won't screw into the new master cylinder. Not even close. There is only one part number listed for my car. My car is an early '89, so I thought that the M/C for an '88 might be different so I checked...same Bendix part number. Has anyone run into this problem before? I know the threads on the combo valve changed in mid '89, but I haven't heard anything about the threads on the M/C changing. The other problem is that the seats in the original M/C are inverted, while the new ones are not.

The only other thing I can think of is to order a rebuilt aluminum body one and hope the correct one shows up. I really wanted a new one instead of a rebuild, though.

 

if the seats are wrong then it is not the right one for the car.

i also had problems installing the lines i found loosening the other end helps to get it started. but i think you will have leaks if the seat has changed or you can get a adapter. i had some sent with my brake upgrade kit. no idea on what sizes you need though.

With the wrong threads I couldn't even get the first line started.

I had the store I bought it at order in another one. It figures I'd get the wrong one after I spent hours cleaning it up, painting it (Eastwood's Spray Gray cast iron paint), and bench bleeding it. Yeah, I'm the same guy who got the bad PBR front caliper last week. What a run of luck...too bad it's bad luck.

 

yep the joy of working on a 3rd gen... got my new tires and rims came home put em on and broke off the valve stem even before the wheels hit the ground......doh and the other front wheel the weights were hitting the caliper so back to the tire store i went....... keep the faith its always worth it in the end.

Hate to bring this one back from the dead, but I'm having the same problem.

Did anyone figure this out?

I have the 1LE proportion valve and the Bendix MC 12263. The stock lines from my 86 bolt up fine to the prop valve, but the two that connect to the MC aren't even close.

The two plug things for bleeding that came with it say 9/16" - 18 and 1/2" - 20. I always thought our fittings were metric?

Anyway I'd really like to use a 1LE type master cylinder, does anyone know of one that will fit?
