Riggin' the e brake
I desperatly need to pass inspection here in NJ (Expired Sept2002), and the only thing that won't pass is the emergency brake. Since I swap the rear out I haven't been able to find the spring, and whatever else goes with the e brake on PBR's. I do have the little L bracket on the caliper so I was wondering if I could rig something up to it for a day, with some pullies or something just to give enough tension so the car wouldn't roll at the inspection station. If anyone got some ideas or parts let me know. Thanks

Gotta love Jersey...I hate to tell you but without those two pieces you can't push the piston out to hold the pads against the rotor. No way around it. The spring retracts the lever that pushes the pin that in turn pushes the actuating piston against the rotor. You could probably live without the return spring but you must have the small lever to make it work.
Refer to the thead just above this one concerning e-brake:

Ahh I see, no rig jobs this time. Is there anywhere that I could buy these parts, or even a name that i could use to explain them.
Thanks

Honestly your best bet is to buy a complete used caliper and scavenge the parts from it. I priced those parts from GM once and they were around $100 just for those 2. Or, buy a loaded rebuilt caliper from any parts store and give them your old one. It's around $100 but you'll get a complete caliper with pads, not bad if you're in a pinch.

Ok you wanna rig it so they can't tell or that don't matter???
You could simply install a line lock in the rear brake line. Just run some line and hide it so its not visible. When you get in the car as you pull the brake lever, you jam your foot on the brake and hit the line lock.
Or even hit the line lock before they start the inspection, before they even start looking at the car. That way the rears are already locked and all the see you do is yank the lever up.
Could get a fancy electric one or just a cheapo manual valve.

Ed, I did buy new calipers already and all it came with is the little metal piece in the picture below. This is the part I was thinking to rig a wire or something else to, because it seems that when some tension is put on it it pushes against the brake pad. I just don't know if it's enough to keep the car from rolling on a SLIGHT incline. As for the line locks, the people from the inspection station get in your car and do everything themselves so i don't think that will work. Well it might, just have to rig it anyways.
