is it possible to do a C5 brake upgrade for about $250

Im looking for something to do on the car in the next few months and the C5 brake upgrade loks like something fun. Can I do this swap for about $250? I throw that figure out because I can have the brackets made for free, and I can also have my stock rotors milled down to create the new hub. I will do the spindle mod myslef too. So basically all I need to do it find a pair or C5 calipers and rotors right? I know about the hardware that is needed as well? Am I missing anything else here? I have all the tools needed as well and I WILL do the spindle mod with them on the car. I also have a 4th gen LT1 rear with the stock setup so I amy upgrade those is its worth later in the futher. So, you think I can do this for thatprice or should I use the abundent LS1 brakes? I really only use the car to ride around town and stuff.

edit,,,,,, I just did a little more research and now I know that the "LS1" and C5 brakes are pretty much the same.............right?

with thar said, it means I can go to a local boneyeard and pull off the front calipers and rotors from ANY 98+ Fbody and start doing the swap. Is the red paint and the word corvette the only difference in calipers?

with ls1 brakes they are only 12 and with the vette they are like 12.7 . I think i did mine for like 580 with all new parts . The brackets were free and the hubs cost 45 , the studs cost like 30 since i got arp , you need pads , and rotors , calipers, the abutment that holds the caliper, you could deffy do it cheaper if you could get used stuff or if you got stuff from the bone yard , but i dont think you will find a c5 vette in the junkyard, but you have to decide what you want , the 12 or 13 inch brakes.

well the price would be a LOT more if I went up one 1 inch and I dont think it owuld be worth it performance wise fo rme since the car doesnt see any hard road racing or anything. if I found a 98+ car in the boneyard, the I would really have everything there I need as far as hardware right. all I would need to buy outright is studs and pads(if the ads are bad on the car)

when you say"the hubs cost $45" do you mean it cost you $45 to have your machined? And this abutment that you refer too should be on the donor car if all the partsd are still intact right?

is this a complete list

2 calipers(LS1)
2 rotors(LS1)
2 rotors (mine) need to be modified
2 spindels(mine) need to be modified
brake pads set for LS1
2 abutments brackets
2 "special adatper brackets"
10 new longer wheel studs(how long if Iam already using wheel spacers?)
any hardware needed(should be whats on donor car)

is this everything

yeah it cost me 45 to have them machined, also a word of advise , i got the arp studs and they only come in one length , they say they fit but i managed to crack the hib when we put one in , so what we did to all the toher holes is use a .500 reamer and it just cleaned up the holes and made it perfect . You also need the little pins that abutment slids on .

ok here is a list of everything i needed to do the vette mods, i have parts numbers but htey will be differnt , but just to guve you the " idear"

front lh rotor
front rh rotor
ceramic pads
caliper lh
caliper rh
abutment need one from each side
boot kit need 4 , these cover the pins so dirt doesnt get in
slide pin need 4
banjo bolt need 2
caliper to abutment bolt need 4
bolt , bracket to spindle need 4

If you can do everything yourself You can keep it on a good budget. Depending where you find calipers and Rotors.

I picked up some crossdrilled/sloted rotors form Summit on sale. Did my own hubs and brackets and will just buy calipers new from gmparts direct

I get studs dirt cheap at business cost so thats a saver right there also...

If you cant get something done yourself let me know.
There are quite a few people on this board who could help you get/make what you need.
