i might be getting a parts car z28 with a rear disc brake setup, how worthwhile is it to swap into my car? i know in my lumina the callipers break all the time, is this true with this setup? and do they provide better stoping power then my drum setup?

 

I had an 85 Z28 with the drum rear brakes and I now own an 85 IROC-Z with 4 wheel disc. The rear disc's make a world of difference. Once you try them you will never want to use drum brakes again!!!!!

I changed out my rear calipers at around 150, 000 miles. I have 187,000 on the car now and they are still fine, and still on the same set of pads.

I normally get 70K out of a set of rear pads, but that was when they were made with Asbestos.... (I still have an almost brand new set of Asbestos rear pads that came out of the old calipers).......

 

I had a defective 82-88 rear disc setup (like everyone else) and they sucked so bad. I'd take rear drums any day over that crap. After 2 new calipers, a prop valve, and alot of bleeding, the brakes are a bit better than my rear drums. I wouldn't call them a world of difference, but rear discs also have alot more potential for upgrades.
