help!!!! please
i have a 91 rs, and i think i have an issue with the brakes, it may be in the suspension, cruisin down the road its fine, but when u get on the brakes it pulls real hard to the right and they lock up really easily and the faster u go the worst it gets, which makes for a very scary ride on the highway, i thought it might be a problem in the caliper but i really dont know just guessing, need help soon!!!!!!!!!thanx
I'm not a pro mechanic, but I've been thru this with our TA& other cars. If the front end components are checked out OK,and I do mean everything for safetys sake, then it's probably the caliper gettin stuck in its bore. First & sometimes the easiest way to find the caliper or drum problem is excessive heat,or you can smell the pads cookin.I don't even bother to rebuild calipers any more,I just exchange them for rebuilts.Calipers are not difficult to rebuild(my opinion)just do one at a time but they do take patience. I know they suggest using air to push, blow out brake piston.I've used the cars own brake pressure to push out piston. Slower & less violent if you get a finger in the way. You'll go thru quite a bit of brake fluid though. The problems are if there was any moisture in the caliper or wheel cylinder the precision bore/ finish will be rusty, with major possibility of seal failure/brake failure. If bore is OK the next trick is getting the piston seal in then dust boot & the must difficult part is to slip piston into dust boot then into caliper bore perfectly straight. I f you use any thing other than hand force you run a risk of scoring piston wall or pushing seal out of place.I've never damaged the seal because the pistons have a large entrance radius to prevent seal damage. Good Luck
