search engine for 9 bolt rear keeps popping up LS1 info
I keep attempting to locate info on the 9 bolt rear end and possible brake upgrades for my 88 5.7 IROC, but I keep getting LS1 returns when I attempt different search blogs.
Is the 9 bolt somehow related to the newer LS1's??
Thanks; it's always fun to be brand new to an unfamiliar car....

what are you looking to do brakes wise? racecar setup for track use, or just want to be able to stop your car BEFORE you hit the deer. i just upgraded my 88 9bolt to 89+ 11.75" rotors with aluminum PBR callipers. they will fit under any stock 15" or 16" wheel. (pretty sure no dice on 14" wheels, but i could be wrong)
the only thing is that your 88 disc prop valve will hafta be changed to a 89+ prop valve (drum or disc, 89+ used the same for both) or get an adgustable one

RE: Brakes vs 9 bolt rear end
Yes, it's the deer on the back roads at night and an occasional track day at my local NASCAR road course.
At this point I just need performance nimbleness. There's just to much suspension parts to replace to get to expensive for now. I'll also be sticking to the factory 16" IROC wheels for that stealth/interceptor look
See, by you mentioning the proportioning valve, that's obviously going to be extra helpful!
Still though, why the search option continual return of mostly LS1 brakes????

because alot of people are retro fitting LS1 brakes to both the 10 bolt and 9 bolt rears in 3rd gens. The LS1 brakes are larger and stronger than anything that came stock on a 3rd gen and parts are fairly cheep for them.
Search LS1 brakes and you will see that its not to tough, and there are guys on this board that will make/sell you any custom brakets that you need to do the swap.
