Question ALUMINUM Drum third gen
When Third Gen F-body came in 1982 ther was a option for aluminum drum brake for the rear end, (weigth saving) what was the RPO code and how long GM offer this option for third gen F-body.
I khow GM offer aluminium drums on other GM car line up in the 80 years but witch one exactly ?
Thank's for any advice.

I know a good number of the Turbo Buicks got them and I've seen them on several Monte Carlos in the junkyards. They're great because they're rotating AND unsprung weight. I've seen gains of almost a tenth by just putting aluminum drums on the car.

That sounds crazy, they must have done other mods at the same time. It is only weight savings and possibly better heat dissipation.

no, that's the only change. Did you see where I said, "...by just putting aluminum drums on the car"? I dug out the timeslips from that day,it went from 13.98 to a 13.90, so it's actually .02 which is almost a tenth

The RPO code was J42. I have aluminum drums on my '92 GTA. I know Buick LeSabre's from the mid-80's also used them.
Dropping from 13.98 to 13.90 is .08 seconds not .02.

I personaly saw these drums on 82, 83, 84 and 86 Camaro and IROC-Z
