info on drop spindles?
im wondering if anyone knows anythign in general or in detail about lowering spindles...
i ran a search but didnt come up with much concerning what im looking to learn about drop spindles
since i will be doing the front brakes and other work up there, i realized that it might be a good idea to toss on the 2" drop spindles that i purchased 4 years ago off ebay. it'll also give the car the right stance after im done witht eh paint project too..
-i also plan on contacting Ed Miller for advice and possibly a purchase if he would be able to build me a setup of rotors, calipers, braided lines, 2 inch drop spindles etc .. i'll PM him in a week or so once i have a better understanding of parts/tasks/things involved
so basically .. how do they work?
what kinda work load is it to get them on? does it involve removing any struts or springs?
do i need other parts/bearings, struts, any of that?
is it a good idea?
will they work with new brakes? even LS1 / C4 / C5 brakes and rotors? or wilt hat screw everythign up?
how doe thay work meaning what do they change or replace in the car?

Drop spindles are the same as stock spindles, but with the spindle itself located higher so that the car sits lower between the wheels. They usually don't work with upgraded brakes unless you do some fabrication of your own.
To replace them you'll have to take off the wheel, brake rotor and bearings, unbolt the strut, pop out the ball joint and tie rod end. The springs can stay in if you support the A arm with a jack.

Does anyone have any information on the tire scrub radius on 2" dropped spindles vs stock spindles?

ok... my plans are to have these spindles checked out, to make sure they are indeed what tehy are supposed to be, and that tehy are solid
then, i plan on having my front brakes completley done,, either have Ed Miller build me a set of front LS1, C4 vette brakes rigth onto the spindles... or have my mechanic build me new brakes.. rotors, calipers, bearings, races, braided lines, etc
-i would love to redo the whole suspension and steering, but i dont have $ now, and im ionly doing the brakes because the left caliper locked up and warped my rotor last month, but i do plan on doing the suspsneion over completley, in a year from now
the reason i want to lower the car, is because the front sits about 1.5 inches higher than the rear now, from all of the weight i've been removing up front, and the heavy sound system inteh back.. it really looks akward...
plus since im redoing the body/paint i want the rake and angles/stance of hte car to look good too
another question i have...
will i NEED, NEED to get new front struts if i put these spindles on? i'm jsut imagining that the struts wont be able to bolt on to the spindle unless they are compressed 2" ... is this correct? or is this not how it works??
pics attached below
(do they look correct??)
-and the car is held up by a floor jack, the jack-stand was just there (loose) incase the jack failed.. so dont think i was holding up the car by the A-arm, it wasnt
just the rotor and brakes normally

how it looks like it would mount to the existing caliper.. bolt holes look the same

measuring the distance from the exiting moint surface, to the spindle surface gives me about 2"...just eyeballing it

measuring again... yes, its hard to see the spindle that is on there because its all dirty, but u can see it if you look close
