86z Master Cyl/Brake Booster leak

I have a 86 camaro z28, with disk brakes in the front and drums in the back. I recently waited too long to do my front disk brakes and when I did, I had to replace the grooved rotors and worn out wheel bearings, too. (I did do my back brakes a couple of months ago before they got as bad). ANyway, when I was pumping my brakes after I did the front to make sure they worked and I could hear a hissng noise from my master cylinder area. Sure enough, when I pumped the brakes, fluid was oozing out of not my actual master cylinder, but where the master cylinder meets the brake booster, around the outside edge of that round gasket thats more in the booster than the cylinder....it's behind a star washer thing. Anyway, can they be rebuilt? And what needs to be rebuilt, the cylinder or the booster? I put a little of the high-temp red silicone behind that gasket where it was leaking, let it dry, bled my brakes and it seems to be holding, but I don't know if I can trust it. Anybody know or have had any experience with this? Thanks!

Your master cylinder most likely needs to be replaced. I wouldn't bother trying to rebuild it, just replace it.

i would replace the m/c and while you are there make sure you havent damaged the brake booster by letting brake fluid enter the system. i wouldnt think its safe for fluid to be in the brake booster since only air is suppose to be in there. You probably broke the primary piston seal in the m/c and is bypassing fluid

Ok Thanks. I hope the booster is OK because that is an expensive part!
