New Rotors, bearings, breaks - now smoking rim??

New Rotors, bearings, breaks - now smoking rim??

OK,

Just replaced the bearings, rotors, and breaks on the front of my 87 TA. I was getting a wicked humming sound from the front end and the loal shop said it was bad bearing after a test drive.

So I set off to fix the problem. All went well during the install. Old equipment came off with out issue, the new bearing packed well and installed into the new rotor with out problem. The break pads set into the calipers with out concern. It was a good day in for the driveway mechanic!

Then came the test drive...I knew it went to smooth. I took the car down to the gas station to put some go juice in and then back home, about a mile or so in total. The humming sound was gone and everything seemed ok. Then I saw the smoke.

The passenger tire was smoking bad and the rim is really hot. (sigh) So, what can it be? Did I tighten up the castle nut to tight? I the caliper stuck? it was not doing this before the install....

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You could have snugged the castel nut a little to much.Did you bleed the brakes after you installed the new pads(did you do just pads or pads and calipers?)?The caliper could be dragging on the rotor.Also are the front brake hoses original or have you replaced them.A brake hose can appear good but collapse on the inside causing the caliper to not release.

I just replaced the pads, the hoses looked very good and I did not bleed them.

It is possible to torqued down the castle nut too much. If I did will I need to restart to whole process over?

it's not the castle nut that would cause the bearings to fry but not cause burning in 2 miles of driving.. likely the caliper is sticking or pads installed wrong, double check and make sure you didn't twist the caliper hose if you find it has been turned 360 degrees replace it.. could be holding fluid pressure on the pads causing burning..
