master cylinder emptied

after messing around with my wheel cylinder, trying to figure out which i had, metric or standard, i got it on, got the new hardline installed but now comes the fun part. My rear brake resevoir is like empty, can see fluid at the hole but there is no fluid in the resevoir itself, am i going to have to bleed the master cylinder? Or is there another way to get the air out if there is any there? I reall don't wanna take the time to remove the mc and bleed it unless its absolutely necessary. Can it be done without removing the MC?

If you can jack up the car in such a way that the master cylinder is level and the driver side is a tad higher then the passenger side. You can bleed the air out.

same type of deal as when doing the bleeder screws? Push 3 times on the brake, open the MC line then close? Does the MC lid have to be on for this method of bleeding the MC?
